Can I introduce you to Darcy?

Recently decided to name all the toys I make.

This could get difficult at times, but I have a few friends/family I can get ideas from when I get stuck.

This year I was very fortunate to get some new design work done, and that included labels which I attach to my work. The other day I realised that there is one blank side on the label, so here I will write the name!!!
Be sure to check the label for a name, if you do an order!

I understand some recipients might not like the name, but that's OK, it gives a start on the naming process ☺☺

Anyway, after all that, can I introduce you to Darcy?

The kids ;)

Our kids are always wanting me to make them a toy - but they have enough!

Recently they asked for headbands, so I did my best!

The hard bit about headbands is that they stretch when made of yarn! But the kids were happy, so I am too!

Knitting and Life

There are memes for everything these days
or so it seems!

I find it amusing to check if there are any new ones relating to knitting, and now and then, I find one!

I enjoyed that one!

Since I started knitting so dedicatedly, I have found it almost impossible to sit and just do nothing!
I have to have my hands busy, or I feel VERY unproductive!

Have you got a hobby that keeps your hands busy? Or do you not get much time to sit anyway?

Blankies are always popular!

I get regular orders for blankies, and it is easy to see why...

I have blankies of different colours available at all times,
then the customer lets me know which animal they want,
and it only takes a few hours for me to finish!

Here was an order for a new baby down in Tasmania -
I get regular orders from a customer down there!

I'm loving making these shawls!

Shawls are SO much fun!
Recently I was gifted some sock yarn, and enjoyed making it into a shawl.

The result was gorgeous!
You be the judge! ☺

Another first

Having never made a doll, I was not really sure how it would go.
I changed my ideas as I went, and she developed into a special little girl ☺

I can see that one could change lots of details and create a very different doll
which could be lots of fun!

This was not a complicated pattern, and I enjoyed the process (as I do most times)
of transforming a few balls of yarn, into something very huggable! ☺

I can also make boy dolls - they could be made into varied types of boys too!
The possibilities really are endless!

I named this little girl Magnolia - something about her colours seemed to suggest that.
She is very special too, because you may notice, she has no mouth!
I think that could be very useful in a little friend...
Someone to tell secrets to - and they never go anywhere! ☺

Next time I make a little girl, she will definitely have a longer fringe (bangs).
But that is what is fun!
Each time I can change something and create a very different doll!

Positively pink!

Well, my lovely blog friends, it’s another Monday. Which means that there’s another week of knitting ahead. What should I knit next? Any ideas? Leave me a comment if you’ve got something in mind that you’d like to see.

Here’s another customer request. A colourpillar please! Make it bright!
Ten body segments... And so I went to work.

I hadn't done a colourpillar like this before, but I think having the head and feet the same colour looked great! It would make a lovely butterfly, wouldn’t it? Hmmmm... there’s a thought...
Anyway, it’s already been sent off to its new home, but if you know someone who needs a cuddly, squishy colourpiller to keep them company, let me know! I can do other colour schemes if you like. In case you don’t think I own enough yarn for that...
And trust me, that’s not all there is! So the possibilities are endless!

Well, I’ll sign off now. Stay tuned for my next post in which you’ll be meeting a young lady named Magnolia. I’m SO excited about her, and I want to know what you think of her.

Have a happy week, friends!

The Little Engine That Could

Greetings, blog friends! It’s less than two weeks until the first day of Spring here in Australia, so that’s pretty exciting. Every season is inspiring in its own way, so that means new possibilities for knitting projects. Oh, and I love it when you lovely people give me ideas for different projects that I might not think of otherwise. How’s this for a great idea? A knitted engine! And such a happy little engine too. Look at that smile!

My customer provided me with a book cover to give me inspiration, and I must say I’m delighted with the finished result. A toy to match a book is a fantastic idea. And if you want to choo-choo-choose (sorry, I couldn’t help it) one of these as a gift for someone, get in touch with me and we’ll make it happen.

Perfect for a one-year-old’s birthday gift, don’t you think?

Well, that’s all from me for today. Places to go, things to knit. If you like my work, don’t forget to check out my Facebook page. Have a lovely week!

Over the moon!

A new week of knitting!

Good morning, blog friends!

New projects, upcoming projects, projects I’m pondering... and by the way, it would help me enormously to get some feedback from all you lovely people. Comments? Questions? Suggestions for new knits? I’d love to hear from you.

Okay, let’s talk fashion. Knit fashion, that is. Because I just love how this bunny’s dress turned out.

A longer skirt makes her very sweet!

Those ears just get you every time!

Even a little brown tail!

I mean, how cute is that? I love the story behind this project, too. A customer requested a bunny like the one in my shop’s logo (designed by the talented Clara VN), and I was happy to oblige. The customer was “over the moon” so I think it’s safe to say that this bunny went to a good home. By the way, if you know someone who needs a cute bunny in their life, let me know. I’d be happy to create another one.

Happy Friday!

It’s almost the weekend! Time to breathe deep and enjoy whatever you’ve got planned. Of course, if those plans include things like cleaning the house or laundry, I’m pleased to give you an excuse to ignore those for a few minutes while you read this post.  😊

So... anyone who’s been following my Facebook (ahem, if not, check it out!) facebook.com/betsysboutiqueknits will know that I’ve been trying out some new products lately. I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with new patterns, but these days I’m branching out beyond my animal blankies and stuffed animals and dolls. My fingers have been busy knitting shawls, hats and scarves, and I’ve just listed a baby blanket for purchase! It’s a limited time offer, but I’ve extended the purchase deadline till Monday, Aug 27th.

It’s as soft and squishy and light as it looks. There’s only one available to purchase too, so pick it up before someone else does. Contact me for the cost.

Oh, and I’ve got plans for more new products, so keep an eye out! I’m brainstorming Christmas themes right now, and let’s just say that there might be a table runner in the works... Let me know if you’d be interested in seeing that (or any other projects) by leaving a comment here or on Facebook

I hope your weekend is full of smiles, blessings, and happy moments. If you know anyone who would be interested in this blog, please share this with them!

Blankie twins

Never done a grey bunny on a blankie before!

There are so many variations!

Monday 6 August 2018

Another gorgeous shawl!

Shawls DO take longer than toys to make, and appeal to a different audience.
I love that there are SO many patterns available!
Having done less than 10 of them so far, I am having fun finding patterns and experimenting with them!

This pattern was called Two Sisters, and was designed without tassels.

However, the recipient LOVES tassels, so here they are!

This shawl was VERY cosy! The pattern was so simple, and it looks magnificent!

Ready to go

For some time I have thought of having toys ready made.

I prefer the idea of the customer being able to chose their colours,
but sometimes people are in a hurry!

So here are a few friends ready to go!

These are in the small size, and very suitable for little hands, or as a gift to any age really!

And you can even get bags for them - look at this messenger bag!

And this little bag? She looks ready to shop till she drops!

And if desired, there are scarves available, just the right size to keep a bunny warm on a cold day - or to just feel cosy!

Got an urgent need for a bunny?  😉

Back to the beginning Part 2

Betsy's Boutique really started with blankies.

I didn't expect them to be SO popular.

I love the variety there is in different colours.

And the variety of animals means it has appeal to a wider number of customers.

The 100th blankie will be free - just to celebrate! I wonder who will order it?

Monday 25 June 2018

Back to the beginning...

Most people start knitting scarves to begin with, and I did too.

But I quickly moved onto beanies, and made quite a few of them. So it was fun recently to outfit almost an entire family with a new beanie for this winter!

I loved how the colours went together!

I wouldn't mind trying out a few more beanies patterns, but I always have more ideas than I have time, so maybe one day!

Monday 11 June 2018

Light and colourful!

Scarfs and shawls can be almost as much fun as toys!

I often get to experiment with colours, or new patterns, and it is great to see how they come out!

It isn't always straight forward, of course, but I am learning to persist and the results sure make it worth while!

This scarf was very light, and therefore perfect for a friend of mine in Texas ☺

Monday 28 May 2018

Zany Zebra!

Made this zebra for a gift! The stripey effect on the mane just makes me laugh!!!

And the stripes are dark brown - but they still look OK ☺ And much easier for me to see!

Monday 14 May 2018

Perfect for little hands

This gorgeous little monkey - one of my "Hugables" range - is perfect for little hands!

They all come with a removable jacket - any choice of colour!

Even a little tail!!!! ☺☺

Monday 30 April 2018

Bright, colourful and ready for action!

A smiley train!!!

While the wheels do not turn, this would be a great toy for small hands!

The load pictured is not included, so anything could be transported!

The engine can be removed from the back carriage, should play require it!

Monday 16 April 2018

Wombat... or Bear... or both?

Every now and then I experiment with patterns, colours, sizes.
It doesn't always become a success story...
but this time, I was very happy!

Incredibly soft and cuddly!

Originally intended to be a wombat taken from a bear pattern - I have called it a wombear!

Monday 2 April 2018

Black and White

Like the lions, I also took a break from making zebra blankies

but this is also an available option for your blankie

I have not made a blankie like this one before

what do YOU think of these colours?

Monday 19 March 2018

Lovely Lion

I took a break from lion blankies

their manes are more labour intensive than I had time for

but I now have them available again!

The perfect baby toy - bright and colourful!

Monday 5 March 2018

A gorgeous shawl!

I do have quite a range of shawl patterns, but it is fun to make a pattern more than once!

Especially when you do it in different colours!

I know, I've said it  before, but it is amazing to see how it comes out!

And here we have it again...

A few weeks back, I displayed a two-tone blue shawl

look at this!

Monday 19 February 2018

Cutie duckie!

I have done this duckie before, but this one is special because it is made to the customer's specific requirements! A dress and a bow in her hair to match!

A real cutie!

Monday 5 February 2018

Schoolboy turtle?

My sister says this turtle looks like a school boy!!!

What do you think?

I love the colours!!!

Stripes of love

When those you love are far away...

And life is not so easy....

A love gift can mean SO much!

This is SO gorgeous!!!

Lorraine @ Rainebo Designs is an amazing woman!!!!

Thanks Lorraine, for giving me the means to help others find the perfect gift!

Monday 8 January 2018

A love gift

You may recall that in 2017 I made our son a HUGE wool blanket - one of those forever gifts - to never forget his Mummy's love...

Our daughter wasn't so keen on a woollen blanket, but decided a cotton shawl would be great!

So we found some lovely bright colours...

And a pattern that worked with with being random with those colours...

And here it is!!!

Monday 1 January 2018

2018

2017 was a great year for Betsy's Boutique!!!

Thanks to all those who purchased my products!

A new year...

New patterns...

New customers...

Looking forward to it!!!!
